**This bike was part of Fanatik's demo program. It may have slight blemishes but is in excellent mechanical condition. Pictures above are of the actual bike**

The Hendrix is a new bike to Devinci's 2016 lineup, and fills the growing niche for "plus" sized bikes. The term "plus" simply refers to the tire size, meaning this bike is capable of accepting 2.8" - 3" width tires. It's not quite fatbike territory, but it's certainly quite a lot more meat than your standard 2.2" - 2.4" trail bike tire. The appeal to this relatively new tire size can be narrowed down to one word: traction. It's all about traction, traction, and more traction. Make no mistake, the 2.8" - 3" tires available now are nothing like the 3" tires that used to exist in mountain biking 15 years ago. Those tires were incredibly heavy, intended strictly for downhill use. This new breed of plus-sized tires, available mainly from Schwalbe, Maxxis, and WTB, have a special lightweight casing and a profile that is intended to be mounted on wide rims (30mm ID or wider). When mounted to a wide rim, it allows the rider to run very low tire pressure, generally around 15 psi. The low pressure, combined with super wide tires provides...you guess it, TRACTION!

As with all Devinci full suspension bikes, the Hendrix is equipped with the tried-and-true Split Pivot platform. Devinci has equipped this bike with 110mm rear travel, just enough to soak up the chatter. It is recommended to build the bike with a 120 - 140mm travel fork to keep things as balanced as possible. As the industry shifts towards 1X drivetrains, Devinci opted to omit the front derailleur tab all together on this bike, so it is only compatible with 1X setups.

True to form, the Hendrix features adjustable geometry. Using flip chips located on the upper seatstay pivots, you can switch between high and low settings, adjusting head angle and BB height. With a 120mm fork and the low geometry position, the head angle sits at a comfortable 67.0°, with a 12.8" BB height. Flip the chips to the high setting, and it steepens the head angle to 67.4° with a 13.1" BB height. A 130mm fork, such as the Pike, will slacken the head angle by about 0.7°. To keep the chainstay as short as possible, Devinci opted for Boost 12x148mm rear axle spacing on this bike.

We've ridden several plus-bikes here at Fanatik, and while it's not the perfect solution for every riding style/condition out there, we do think this new breed of bikes has its place. For desert style rocky/dry/dusty conditions, plus bikes give you loads of traction for technical climbs up rocky/jagged terrain. This style of bike is also great for new mountain bikers who are still learning the ropes, so to speak. The Hendrix corners with ease, and is very stable overall, thanks to it's larger volume tires. For riders who are very playful in their riding style, and looking to pop around off every little feature on the trail, you may want to look elsewhere. The Hendrix is intended to be a stable, wheels-on-the-ground type of bike.

The Hendrix frame comes stock with a Rock Shox Monarch R Debonair rear shock. As with all Devinci bikes, the Hendrix is backed by Devinci's lifetime warranty.

  • Slit Pivot Suspension
Dave Weagle’s patented Split Pivot technology. Today it represents the core of Devinci’s full-suspension line-up. The genius of the Split Pivot suspension system is that it works in conjunction with you—the rider—for intuitive performance and a fully customizable feel. It harmonizes and maximizes bump compliance, traction, and efficiency—factors that are normally at odds with each other. The result is a buttery smooth ride with hyperactive small bump compliance and podium-crushing pedal stroke efficiency. The system is called Split Pivot because of its concentric rear dropout pivot built in line with the rear wheel axle, but there’s more to it than that.

The concentric rear dropout pivot, along with precise swing arm and linkage pivot placement, heightens performance to a level where rider action and bike reaction all meld into one. When you pedal, the bike rockets forward; when you corner, the bike nails your lines; when you brake, the bike maintains traction. Simple. Forget about shock lockouts, this superior blend of traction and efficiency heightens performance across all disciplines so you can focus on the ride.

    How Does Split Pivot Work?
The beauty of the concentric dropout pivot design is that it separates acceleration forces from braking forces within the suspension system. This is achieved through precise pivot placement, whereby braking neutrality is tuned independently of acceleration characteristics. Suspension feel can be tuned by varying leverage ratio curves in a wide range of options to suit various riding disciplines.

    Split Pivot Testing and Tuning
Designing a bike blueprint and manufacturing it from raw materials is only the first step in the process. In addition to cutting-edge features, rear shocks on Split Pivot models are custom tuned by Dave Weagle—in collaboration with world-class suspension manufacturers and skilled test pilots—to extract every last lick of traction, efficiency, and performance. This customized tuning is key to ensuring that every shock works in synchronicity with the Split Pivot, thus providing unreal feel and a ride you won’t want to quit.

  • Full Response Geometry
FRG designs put riders in the best possible position on the bike. FRG bikes are quick and aggressive at lower speeds, demonstrate rock-solid stability at high speeds, and its low stand-over height gives bikes a nimble feel. Whether you're pedaling uphill or railing downhill singletrack, FRG guarantees precise handling and excellent power transfer. Devinci possesses possibly the best research and development minds in the bike industry. Years of experience testing competition mountain bikes and experimental rigs outfitted with cutting edge data-collecting instrumentation has lead to Full Response Geometry (FRG) engineering for cross-country frames, as well as FRG Adjustable tech for full-suspension mountain bikes.
