The venerable Troy is one of Devinci's longest standing models, now entering it's third generation, along with a radical new design. As expected, the Troy 29 is now built around 29" wheels, with a separate model developed around 27.5" wheels (the Troy 27.5). With 29"-wheeled bikes largely taking over the mountain bike world, we're happy to see the Troy now offered with this popular wheel size. Along with an entirely redesigned frame and carbon tubeset, the Troy also gets geometry tweaks - as you probably guessed, longer and slacker. Rear suspension travel stays the same for the new Troy at 140mm, keeping the bike lively with enough to soak up the rough stuff.

The Troy is intended to be an all-around trail bike, with the ability to get rowdy if so desired. As with all of Devinci's trail bikes, the Troy's geometry can be adjusted between low and high settings via flip chips, now located at the lower shock mount. Doing so will effectively change the head tube angle from 66° to 66.5°, the seat tube angle from 74.5° to 75° the BB height from 340mm to 346mm, and the chainstay from 432mm to 430mm. The reach also increases by 5mm in the high position. While none of these numbers are wildly different than what we would expect, they do show that the Troy is a very versatile bike, and can be built to suit a multitude of rider preferences. In the same vein, the Troy can be built around either a 150mm or 160mm fork. Those looking for a more aggressive build with longer travel should opt for the 160mm fork, which will also slacken the head angle by about a half-degree from the numbers listed above. Or for those looking for a slightly tamer bike, the 150mm fork will do the trick. 

Two more major changes to the Troy for 2019: Trunnion shock mount and Super Boost Plus 12x157mm rear dropout spacing. The Trunnion system reduces initial compression stiction by doing away with a traditional DU-bushing style upper shock mount, and replacing it with sealed cartridge bearings in the upper linkage that bolt directly to the top of the shock body. Ultimately this provides buttery-smooth suspension feel as well as improved small bump compliance. While some may be fed up with yet another rear dropout standard standard, 12x157mm Super Boost is here to stay, and most new bikes coming down the pipeline will be using this size. Though it won't provide a massive increase in performance/stiffness over 12x148mm Boost, it does mean Devinci was able to cut the chainstay length on this bike down to a very short 16.9" (430mm). The super short chainstays play a significant role in how playful and lively this bike feels.

Other highlights of the Troy include a threaded BB shell, full carbon frame including chainstay and rocker link, a dual-position water bottle cage mount system which allows for a 500ml bottle with piggyback shock, or 750ml bottle with standard shock, as well as internal rattle-free cable routing.
