Fox brings back the 36 platform for 2017, offering the same fantastic performance and features we came to love on the 2016 model. New for this year, Fox has revised the shim-stack in the 36-series forks, a change they are referring to as the E16 tune. More on that later in this description.

3-Position FIT4 Damper
Fox's FIT4 damper offers three main compression settings, Open/Medium/Firm. In the open position, the fork's oil flow is maximized, providing a very plush and responsive feel overall. The medium position stiffens the initial compression, allowing the fork to ride slightly higher in it's travel, reducing pedal bob/feedback. The firm setting will be increase initial compression resistance even more, and will offer the firmest ride of the three settings. Naturally, the open setting is intended for downhill trail sections, the medium setting is intended for primarily flat trail sections, and the firm setting is intended for climbing. In the open mode, the FIT4 damper offers 22 clicks of low speed compression, though it does lack the externally adjustable high speed compression that the RC2 damper offers (found on Fox's 36 RC2 forks). Why offer such a range of compression adjustment in the open setting when you could just flip the knob to the medium setting? Good question. The medium setting is intended for a quick on-the-fly switch to a firmer platform. On the inside of the fork, the medium setting, the fork has to push through a shim stack ever time it is compressed, which results in slightly harsher small bump performance. The open setting however does not utilize that shim stack, resulting in unadulterated performance - so it makes sense to give those extra 22 clicks of compression adjustability in this setting, as that is where you'll likely be spending the most time when riding.

The FIT4 utilizes a 10mm shaft and seal head design that increases oil flow to the base valve, same as what's used on Fox's 36 RC2 and 40 RC2 forks. Fox also increased flow through the rebound circuit for faster recovery from hard hits. With the increased oil flow throughout the entire damper, as well as improvements to inner seal heads, the FIT4 forks will be very plush and responsive in the open setting.

E16 Tune
So what's the deal with this cryptic E16 tune? Basically, it's a slight tweak made to the internal shim stack, which alters beginning-stroke oil flow. The result is a fork that rides slightly higher in it's stroke at low speeds and on technical climbs. The idea is to give you increased traction and control when climbing. On the descents, the fork will feel just as supple and responsive as it always has.

Talas Adjustable Travel

The Talas feature provides two-step adjustable travel between 130 and 160mm.  Simply turn the crown-mounted Talas dial to the short travel setting, and push down on the fork. This setting is ideal for climbing when you need to keep the front end lower. Flip the lever back to the long travel setting, and you're ready for action.

Boost 15x110mm
This iteration of the 2017 Fox 36 employs the new Boost 15x110mm axle, increasing chassis stiffness. Please note, this is not convertible to any other axle standard, so please insure that you have a compatible front wheel.

Other Details
Since the 36-series Fox forks are targeted towards the more aggressive crowd, they opt for a 180mm post mount disc brake tab, meaning the smallest rotor you can with this fork is 180mm. As with all Factory Series Fox forks, the 36 Talas utilizes Fox's famous Kashima buttery smooth coating on the stanchions. This fork is backed by Fox's limited 1-year warranty.
