The Intense Carbine 29 is the alpha dog of Intense's fleet, boasting lots of suspension travel big wheels, and aggressive geometry. This is about as close as you'll get to a full-blown downhill bike while still technically riding a trail bike - it's a monster truck that will plow down anything in it's path. The Carbine 29 is intended to be ridden with a 160mm fork up front, and boasts 140mm rear travel. With a 67° head angle, 13.75" BB height, and a 17.75" chainstay, this bike is all about speed and stability. Unlike many 29'ers that are plagued with twitchy geometry, the Carbine 29 takes the benefits of big wheels to inspire confidence in any riding situation. Go ahead, take it to the bike park...this bike can take it all.
To handle the suspension duties, Intense has stocked a Cane Creek DB Inline rear shock. The DB Inline is a fantastic lightweight shock, offering ample external adjustability including high/low speed compression and high/low speed rebound. It also features a Climb Switch, which improves climbing performance by deadening both low speed rebound and low speed compression. Suspension travel is adjustable between 125mm and 140mm (5" - 5.5") via the lower shock bolt. Simply unscrew the bolt using a 5mm allen wrench, and align the shock to desired travel setting. The JS-Tuned VPP platform lends itself well to climbing, with little feedback when you're cranking up hills.
Like many bikes these days, the Carbine 29 is designed around a 1x11 drivetrain, but Intense understands that there are a multitude of drivetrain options for this style of bike, so they fitted the frame an ISCG '05 chainguide tab, and gave it clearance for 2X and 3X cranksets. A direct mount tab takes the guess-work out of front derailleur fitment, and makes the frame fully compatible with Shimano and SRAM direct mount front derailleurs.
The Carbine 29 features a full carbon rear swingarm, including molded fixed 12x142mm Syntace dropouts, resulting in a simple, clean setup. Compatible axles include Intense's bolt-on alloy Syntace option, or the DT Swiss RWS Syntace axle for those who want a tool-less option. Intense has implemented internal rear derailleur cable routing through the chainstay, making things as clean as possible. Stiffness and strength have also been maximized by using an oblong-boxed construction the seatstays and chainstays. Finishing things off, the chainstay is protected with Intense's FLK:GRD carbon-leather protectors, keeping the carbon safe from chain slap. The main frame is routed for internal cable routing, and also includes an FLK:GRD downtube protector.
The Carbine 29 utilizes Intense's tried-and-true oversized pivot axle system. The lower pivot uses two alloy oversized main axles with expander cones to insure tightness. Bearing maintenance is a breeze since the frame is equipped with threaded zert fittings. Regular maintenance will result in excellent bearing longevity.
The Carbine 29 frame comes stock with a Cane Creek Double Barrel Inline rear shock, downtube/chainstay protectors, and a Syntace 12x142mm bolt-on rear axle. This frame is backed with a five year warranty.
