Intense is a company always pushing forward, always innovating, and always at the leading edge of mountain biking in general. Unlike many other bike brands, Intense is able to push a bike from concept to production in a very short time, thanks to their factory based in Temecula, California. Intense still produces all of their alloy bikes right here in the USA, which allows them to crank out new bikes on their own schedule. In a growing market of 27.5" bikes, Intense saw an increasing need for a shorter travel aggressive trail bike. The Spider 275 is exactly that...with 115 - 130mm adjustable VPP suspension, slack angles, low BB height, short chainstays and long front-to-center, this bike screams three letters: FUN.
Over the past couple of years, we would have normally associated 115mm of travel with a steep head angle, high bottom bracket, and overall twitchy geometry. Thankfully bikes have progressed from those days, and we now have a relatively new genre of mountain bikes that don't necessarily fall into any category. The Spider 275 is short travel, like an XC bike, but geometry is nothing of the sort. A slack 67° head angle, 13.25" BB height, and super short 16.5" chainstays changes the game completely. With the Spider 275, you'll be able to climb hills like you're on an XC bike, and descend technical downhills with the confidence of a longer travel enduro bike - oh yea, and you'll be having a serious amount of fun the whole way down. Geometry plays a huge roll in how this bike rides, and Intense hit the nail squarely on the head with the Spider 275. Pair it up with a 130mm travel fork, and the result will be a playful and snappy trail bike that climbs incredibly well.
At the heart of the Spider 275 is Intense's tried-and-true VPP suspension platform, offering snappy pedaling performance and great small-bump compliance. Travel is adjustable between 115mm and 130mm via the lower shock bolt mounting position. Simply unscrew the lower shock bolt, and position the shock in either the upper or lower mounting hole. The upper setting provides 130mm of travel, and the lower setting provides 115mm. This only affects suspension travel - geometry remains unchanged. The frame is constructed from Intense's proprietary hydroformed aluminum tubing, and welded right at home in their Temecula, California factory.
Like many new bikes these days, the Spider 275 is designed around a 1x11 drivetrain, but Intense understands that there are a multitude of drivetrain options for this style of bike, so they fitted the frame with a CNC'd 73mm BB/ISCG '05 unit, and gave it clearance for 2X and 3X cranksets. A direct mount tab takes the guess-work out of front derailleur fitment, and makes the frame fully compatible with Shimano and SRAM direct mount front derailleurs. All cables are routed externally on the Spider 275, with the exception of a stealth-compatible dropper post, which is routed internally through the seat tube.
