Transition Spur Carbon Frame
New to Transition’s line-up, the Spur has similar geometry and travel to the 2020 Smuggler, but the frame and rear shock alone weigh considerably less (about a pound). Although it has slightly less front wheel travel (120mm instead of 140mm, about ¾”), it wouldn't be fair to call it a cross-country bike; all the fun-inducing frame dimensions - reach, wheelbase, bottom bracket height, and chainstay length are also close to identical to the Smuggler. Even the headtube angle sits at 66 degrees. It's a bike that retains all the fun characteristics of Transition's bigger models, but drops a whole lot of weight. To describe it, you might even have to come up with a whole new category. Let's say "all-country."
Equipped with the SIDluxe rear shock and a pivot-less rear triangle that flexes instead of spinning around bearings, this is a bike that will easily build up under 28lbs, giving it a featherweight climbing feel. Combined with Transition's Speed Balanced Geometry, the Spur lets you attack the trail in a way you might not have thought possible, picking and choosing your lines at a moments notice instead of having to resort to plowing through them.
To aid in the all-day epics you'll find yourself doing on the Spur, you'll find not one but two water bottle cage mounts on the downtube, as well as the accessory mount shared with the rest of Transition’s newest bikes. This fits adapters like Wolf Tooth’s B-RAD mount, to which you can affix anything from a spare tube to a burrito. The frame features an internally routed rear derailleur cable, but smartly leaves the rear brake line external for quick brake swaps, and the pivots include shields over the bearings to keep that Utah dust and Squamish mud out. For those who think 66 degrees is too slack (or not slack enough), the Spur requires press in zero stack headset cups, thereby allowing you to purchase an angled headset if you want to tweak your geo. The Spur comes in gorgeous “Deep Sea Green”, a lovely, dark, greenish blue hue, as well as “Black Powder,” a slate grey with brushed gold accents. You can find it loaded into our Visual Bike Builder, where you can build up the Transition Spur of your dreams.
