SRAM NX Eagle PG-1230 12-Speed Cassette 11-50T
SRAM has expanded its Eagle offerings with the introduction of the NX drivetrain line. The NX groupset is the go-to for riders seeking a more affordable 1x setup, without sacrificing the technology and reliability that SRAM Eagle is known for.
What truly sets the NX cassette apart from others in the Eagle family is that it must be used with an HG driver, and pairs with a standard 8, 9, 10, or 11-speed splined driver body from SRAM or Shimano. What do all these buzzwords mean? You can upgrade to a 1x12 drivetrain without the potential hassle and added cost of upgrading to a new XD driver, further increasing compatibility.
Because the NX cassette works in sync with HG drivers, this cassette discards the 10-tooth sprocket found on other Eagle cassettes, and uses an 11-tooth for its smallest gear. This 11-50 tooth setup will sacrifice a bit of gear range at the high-end, but most riders won’t notice a difference, and it's a sacrifice that may be worth it for riders on a tighter budget considering this cassette.
The materials on the NX cassette are definitely more tenacious than its higher priced counterparts. The biggest 50-tooth cog is steel, rather than aluminum, and the four largest cogs are riveted to an aluminum spider. This all adds up to more weight - this cassette tips the scale at 613 grams, which is 164 grams heavier than the GX Eagle cassette, and 258 grams heavier than the X01 Eagle cassette. Regardless of materials, the NX drivetrain is just as quiet in the muck and the mire as other Eagle groups, and you can rely on this smooth, quiet, crisp cassette up and down the gear range.
