The widely praised OneUp V2 dropper post has been a staple in the industry since its release. Regularly seen on manufacturer completes, the V2 Dropper has set a standard in the industry with its dependability and functionality. Unsatisfied, the crew at OneUp has made refinements wherever possible, stretching their latest release, the V3 Dropper, even further ahead of the pack.
The V3 has improved in every area, making it the lightest, longest, and smoothest functioning post. Suitable for every discipline, with sizes ranging from 90mm to 240mm, OneUp has built off feedback from their already successful V2. The V3 post is even lighter than other manufacturers’ “XC-specific posts” and is available in 30.9, 31.6, and 34.9mm diameters.
Improvements over V2:
- Smoother actuation and reduced breakaway force
- Low friction SKF main seal
- IGUS upper and lower bushings
- Weight reduction (60-70g)
- Reduced overall length and stack height
Weight Savings
OneUp has shaved weight wherever possible, making the V3 post 60-70g lighter than its predecessor, depending on the model. These savings are visible throughout the post’s design, from the slimmed-down actuator to cut-outs in the upper seat clamp, making it the lightest infinitely adjustable dropper available. Most of the V3’s weight reduction comes from its all-new sealed cartridge, which weighs only 116g compared to the 151g V2 cartridge. The new V3 cartridge is a fully sealed system, eliminating the need to adjust air pressure to ensure fast action. The V3 cartridge is also fully recyclable.
Weights:
- 27.2 - 90mm 304g / 120mm 340g
- 30.9 - 90mm 325g / 120mm 370g / 150mm 415g / 180mm 460g / 210mm 515g / 240mm 585g
- 31.6 - 90mm 337g / 120mm 370g / 150mm 433g / 180mm 480g / 210mm 538g / 240mm 610g
- 34.9 - 90mm 408g / 120mm 472g / 150mm 535g / 180mm 600g / 210mm 675g / 240mm 765g
Smoother Action
While the V2 dropper had already set industry standards with its smooth action, OneUp has made several internal improvements to the feel and ride quality of the V3 Dropper. At the core of its design, the new sealed cartridge requires 75% less lever force with the saddle loaded to initiate its drop, making mid-ride height adjustments easier than ever before.
Refinements
The V3 also has a redeveloped collar with the addition of an SKF wiper seal to keep grit and grime out of the system, ensuring smoother function for longer durations. The bushings within the post have been completely overhauled with self-lubrication IGUS bushings that provide smoother action and have increased overlap to reduce friction within the system while adding rigidity. Posts 180 - 240mm in length also include an additional lower bushing for increased support and less unwanted play in the system. The result is a dropper that provides faster, smoother action while having less side-to-side movement than its predecessor.
There is no cross-compatibility between small parts from the V2 to the V3 dropper post. OneUp will continue to provide support and small parts for the V2 Dropper for the next five years, while increased small part availability for the V3 will ramp up in the coming months.
Verdict
The OneUp V3 Dropper stands as a remarkable evolution in dropper posts, surpassing the widely acclaimed V2 with many enhancements. OneUp's commitment to refining its product shines through in the V3, making it the current pinnacle regarding weight, length, and functionality. From a sleeker design to internal improvements such as a sealed cartridge requiring significantly less lever force, the V3 demonstrates a dedication to providing riders with a superior on-trail experience. With its lighter build, smoother action, and meticulous attention to detail, the OneUp V3 Dropper post solidifies its position as an industry leader, setting new standards for dependability and performance.
